Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

A build-up of excess fat in the liver not caused by alcohol, closely linked to obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Early stages often cause no symptoms and are found incidentally on an ultrasound or blood test, but the condition can progress to liver inflammation and scarring if untreated. Weight loss — including through bariatric surgery — is the most effective treatment for reversing it.
