Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes

En bref
Gestational diabetes usually causes no noticeable symptoms, which is exactly why routine screening during pregnancy matters.
Dans cet article
Gestational diabetes typically causes no noticeable symptoms at all, which is why routine screening during pregnancy — rather than waiting for symptoms — is the standard approach.
Symptoms That Occasionally Occur
When symptoms do appear, they can be easy to mistake for normal pregnancy changes:
- Increased thirst
- More frequent urination (beyond the usual pregnancy increase)
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
Because these overlap so much with ordinary pregnancy symptoms, they aren't a reliable way to detect gestational diabetes — this is exactly why the standard oral glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks exists.
What to Do
If you're pregnant and haven't yet been screened, or if you have risk factors like excess weight, a family history of diabetes, or a previous pregnancy with gestational diabetes, talk to your obstetric provider about timing for screening.
Avertissement
This guide is for general education only and does not diagnose or recommend treatment for any individual. Routine screening, not symptoms, is how gestational diabetes is actually caught — follow your obstetric care team's recommended testing schedule.
