Foods That Lower Blood Sugar
Révisé par l'équipe éditoriale médicale de JordanMedHub · 12/09/2026
En bref
Some foods have a smaller effect on blood sugar than others, or may modestly help with control — here's what the evidence actually supports.
Dans cet article
No food "cures" high blood sugar, but some foods have a smaller impact on it than others, or provide nutrients that support better blood sugar control over time.
Foods With a Smaller Blood Sugar Impact
- High-fiber foods — legumes, vegetables, and whole grains slow glucose absorption
- Foods with a low glycemic index — such as most non-starchy vegetables, most fruits eaten whole (not juiced), and legumes
- Vinegar — some research suggests a small amount taken with a meal may modestly blunt the blood sugar rise that follows, though effects are small and shouldn't replace other management
Keeping This in Perspective
No single food or ingredient will meaningfully lower blood sugar on its own if the overall diet is high in refined carbohydrates and added sugar. These foods work best as part of a broader eating pattern — see our best foods for diabetes guide for the bigger picture — rather than as a quick fix layered on top of an otherwise unchanged diet. In short, portion size and the overall composition of a meal matter more for blood sugar than any single food included in it.

Some small studies suggest a modest effect, but evidence is mixed and inconsistent — it shouldn't be relied on as a treatment on its own.
